Surreptitious
ABOUT: Sur·rep·ti·tious: meaning done secretly, without anyone seeing or knowing; acting or doing something clandestinely. Or, the actions taken secretly, stealthily, or unauthorized to avoid notice or disapproval. Hidden among our own shadows we all surreptitiously hiding.
This series of three was created to demonstrate the intersection in identity between our true selves and the images we craft for the public eye.
MEDIUM: Mixed Media (black and white gesso, acrylic paint, alcohol markets, digital drawing oil photo transfer on glassine)
HOW IT'S MADE: Starting on canvas, black gesso acts as a base for taped lines and patterns, filled in with washes of white gesso. Then, acrylic paint washes are added. Once dried, layers of alcohol markers are used, then paint remover is sprayed to create a colourful effect within the paint. Elsewhere, digital drawings are created, then transferred and made translucent. Once dried, they are applied onto the canvas and sealed with 3 layers of a gloss varnish.
