Intrusive Thoughts (Original)
ABOUT THIS ART PIECE
This self portrait that was inspired by geological cross section and mappings of Levi Walter Yaggy compounded by deep internal reflection, where layers upon layers unearth core wounds and deep intrusive thoughts embedded in its natural faults and fractures that follow us from the beginning of time (or at least our own individual and humble beginnings).
Some intrusive thoughts are more surface level built to make us doubt, particularly about others and how they perceive you, while other thoughts as you go deeper into a self stratigraphy are deep reflections about how you at your core think about yourself, like abandonment or attachment, harm, and even questions about your own mortality and value.
What I love about how this turned out is that you can look at this art piece, find its flaws and imperfections, shadows from the 3D layers on top of each other, and explore. And as you unearth my intrusive thoughts that I may have felt at one point or another in this self portrait, I hope it helps others realize what's beneath their own surface level is a deeply layered and complex core, and maybe that uniqueness and complexity of our own individual weaving geological maps beneath our own skin is actually what makes us more human than anything else in our existence.

HOW IT'S MADE
An oil painted portrait is created on vellum. Then, the painting is cut out and affixed onto thin wood veneer pieces. On vellum, individual fault lines and words are draw and completed with a mix of art pen, pencil crayon and acrylic marker, then the painting is adhered on. The entire piece is placed on wood board, hand cut to size. One cured, 3 layers of resin is poured, adding layers and depth.
A fully custom made solid wood Canadian Pine frame that has been hand cut to size by the artist and stained to finish in a natural wood semi-gloss varnish is included with this art piece.
FRAMES, FINISHES, HANGING
Canvas: This art piece is created on wood board.
Frame: This art piece comes with a pre-installed frame, making this piece ready to hang immediately! The fully custom cut 1" W X 2" H wood frame is made from solid Canadian pine, stained with a natural wood semi-gloss varnish, all done from scratch in the artist's studio.
Hanging: This piece has been pre-hung and features coated galvanized gallery wire attached to D-hooks for easy hanging
Finish: This piece has been sealed with the appropriate varnishes and an approximately one centimetre layer of high shine resin to seal this piece and ensure archival integrity.
NOTE ABOUT WOOD MATERIALS: Heads up! This art and/or its frames are made with new, reclaimed and/or repurposed wood (ex: frames may be made with reused fence stakes/panels, wood scraps too small for use elsewhere may be reused for the back of a handmade frame, wood art canvases may be hand cut from left over construction materials, etc.).
This may result in slightly uneven or slight imperfections in finishes, as this piece and/or it's frames were completely custom cut and made from wood. This is by design and this piece is perfectly imperfect, just the artist intended and envisioned!
