I Pray To A God It Was All Worth It - Diptych (Original)

ABOUT THIS ART PIECE

Art has always been political, and oh, for how I pray to whatever God you believe in that all our choices, actions (or lack thereof), and indifference are not what leads to our imminent end. We are but frogs in slow boiling water forgetting that history repeats itself while we boil alive. Wars and instability make the rich even richer, and destroys every other element of what makes us human.

I started these pieces back in August 2025, but actually got overwhelmed with the emotions these pieces brought up. Initially inspired by my personal decision to be childfree and from conversations with some of my friends who are parents or becoming parents, and the immense fear, guilt, and hope some were feeling as they wade through parenting in a very upside down world filled with global war, pain and uncertainty. From there, a cover by Father John Misty of Arcade Fire’s song The Suburbs has always been my favorite cover of any song ever and gave inspiration (watch the how it was made video to hear the inspiration song). The ending of this song haunts me to no end and the “Weapons of the 21st Century” book I thrifted last year gave final inspiration.

HOW IT'S MADE

On a large piece of wood panel, a collage of distressed pages from a Weapons From The 21st Century book has been dissected, gel transferred, distressed using water and pulp removal, collaged, and then stained and distressed using burning, coffee, staining and painting. On top, an acrylic paint image of children playing with toys is painted in muted navy and grey tones. Custom made and cut vinyl lettering is hand prepared for spray paint lettering of anti-war messages. Finally, letters are outlined in acrylic paint pen and final finishes are added.

Once dried, this piece was sealed with a satin varnish spray, allowing for the textures of the distressed book pages and background to still be featured.

FRAMES, FINISHES, HANGING

• Canvas: This art piece is created on wood board.

• Frame: This piece is finished with a ~3/4 inch handmade reclaimed wood frame attached on the back of the piece, then clamped and nailed onto the art. The frame was created with reclaimed wood and has an intentional natural finish. As the frame is made with reclaimed wood, it is perfectly imperfect, as intended. • Hanging: This piece has been pre-hung and features coated galvanized gallery wire attached to D-hooks for easy hanging

• Finish: This piece has been sealed with the appropriate satin varnish spray, allowing for the textures of the distressed book pages and background to still be featured but allowing longevity and easier handling
